History
Founded in December 1999, Indiana Martial Arts began as a family dream dedicated to teaching martial arts, building confidence, and strengthening the community through discipline and respect. The school was established by Master John Paul, Shihan Valerie Paul, and their two sons, Eric and Eyan.
As the school continued to grow, it quickly became clear that more space was needed. Within just two years, Indiana Martial Arts outgrew its first building and expanded into a second location directly across the street. The additional building allowed the school to better serve its growing student base, with younger students holding classes in the new space.
By 2007, the school had once again outgrown both Main Street locations. To continue providing high-quality instruction and a positive training environment, Indiana Martial Arts built its current facility on Bridge Street, where it remains today. The new dojo was designed specifically for martial arts training and features three training floors, including two spring floors that help make jumping, tumbling, and falling techniques safer and more comfortable for students.
In December 2024, the Paul family officially retired after years of dedicated service to their students and community. Ownership of the school was passed to Mr. William Wallace, a longtime student and Black Belt who trained under the school’s traditions and values for many years. Today, Mr. Wallace proudly continues the legacy of Indiana Martial Arts by providing the same high-quality instruction, supportive atmosphere, and commitment to excellence that students and families have come to expect.

Mr. Wallace
Owner / Chief Instructor
Mr. William Wallace began his martial arts journey in 2012 with a passion for personal growth, discipline, and helping others achieve confidence through training. Over the years, he dedicated himself to studying and mastering multiple martial arts styles, earning the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt in Ryukyu Kempo, 2nd Degree Black Belt in MATS Modern Arnis, and 1st Degree Black Belt in Small Circle Jujitsu.
Through years of consistent training, teaching, and leadership, Mr. Wallace developed a deep appreciation for the traditional values of martial arts while also embracing practical self-defense and modern instruction methods. His commitment to his students and his martial arts community steadily grew, leading him to take on greater responsibilities within the dojo.
In December 2024, Mr. Wallace achieved a major milestone in his martial arts career when he purchased the karate school from his instructors. This accomplishment represented not only years of hard work and dedication, but also the trust and respect he earned from those who guided him throughout his journey.
As a school owner and instructor, Mr. Wallace is passionate about helping students of all ages build confidence, discipline, respect, and perseverance both on and off the mat. He continues to carry on the traditions and values passed down by his instructors while working to inspire the next generation of martial artists.
